As displayed in Figure 3, the basic search bar is a small feature, situated at the top of most pages of univadis® for your convenience.
It's very easy to use and within minutes you will have a list of results to browse. Simply follow the step-by-step guide below to get you started and soon you'll be an expert!
Step One
At the far left of the basic search bar, you will notice a small, unchecked tick-box with the phrase 'Select filter' next to it (Figure 4 )
By clicking the 'Select Filter' option a small window will appear with options to define what results are displayed.
By selecting one of the choices in the window, your list of results will show only those that match your filter criteria. For example, by choosing the option 'Specific Medicine', your results page will omit all those results relating to general medicine. If you have not already created filters or if you would like to create a new one to add to your list, you can do so by clicking on "create new filter"
This box is optional and if you prefer to have no filters then move on to step two. Alternatively, if you like this filter feature and want to learn more about how to make filters, visit the Save This Search section of the help centre.
Step Two
Across from the filters, you will see the search bar (Figure 5) where you should enter your search terms. As you type, a list of keyword suggestions and also terms you have searched for in the past will appear. To choose one of these, use your mouse to click on one of the options. Alternatively keep typing out the term that you want to search for.
Step Three
Finally, on the right of the search bar after you click on the dropdown list, a list of sources to search will appear (Figure 6)
Select one of these to define which databases are searched for your query. The default 'Recommended' option will search a range of top medical websites including PubMed, BMA, Elsevier, The Cochrane Collaboration, various NHS sites and many more.. The "univadis® only" option searches the content of the univadis® website only. This can be further specified if you wish to display image or Medical Education results only. Meanwhile, a "Pubmed" search trawls Pubmed only, "TRIP" searches the TRIP database only, and a "LeRoith" search searches the LeRoith's Diabetes Mellitus online textbook only.
Step Four
You're done! Now press the 'Search' button and let univadis do the searching for you. A list of results will appear and you can then choose the most relevant to your query. For more information about results, visit the help section on Search Results .
